Lacinia is the new and important cycle of compositions by Italian composer and avant-gard guitarist Stefano Pilia, which continues and expands the poetics and compositional ideas initiated with his previous work Spiralis Aurea.
Both in terms of the form of the individual pieces and the entire work, the idea behind Lacinia is to define a circular journey (a kind of ‘rhizomatic lace’) where the beginning and end touch, suggesting the concept of time not only as linear but also cyclical and ritualistic, an eternal return, a process of transformation where the matter changes, its state changes, but without altering the invisible principle of internal mutation. The energy of transformation is channeled through steps, levels, and energetic quanta in a progression of whole numbers, archetypes, and transcendent creation.
Lacinia is edited by Milanese record label Die Schachtel, which has been a leader for years in the rediscovery of Italy’s heritage of art and experimental music, as well as in the promotion of new composers and contemporary sound experiences.

The Secret
In the profoundest ocean
There is a rainbow shell,
It is always there, shining most stilly
Under the greatest storm waves
That the old Greek called “ripples of laughter.”
As you listen, the rainbow shell
Sings – in the profoundest ocean.
It is always there, singing most silently!
